1.0.1Released Nov 6, 2026About this add-on.
StrataFx shapes how Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 draws the sky: its color, how light scatters through the air, how high that scattering reaches and how haze gathers toward the horizon. Its adaptive themes follow the sun from departure to arrival, so dusk looks like dusk.
It comes from the people who make StrataWx, and it works with or without it.
Not a filter. The sky itself.
StrataFx never paints over the finished frame, adds a post-processing pass or swaps a texture. It adjusts the values the simulator's own renderer uses to draw the sky, so the light you see is still scattered, lit and composed by Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Themes that follow the sun
Eight themes come installed, five fixed and three adaptive. A fixed theme holds one style all flight. An adaptive theme is a set of curves: StrataFx reads the sun's height, the local time and the visibility from your flight, and glides between settings as they change.
Tune it, save it, share it
Quick tune gives you four sliders: atmosphere depth, sky blue, sun glow and ambient light. Advanced controls open all twenty sky and environment values, from Rayleigh and particle scattering to the glow around the sun, each with a number you can type and a reset of its own. Undo and redo cover every change.
Compare any theme side by side in the same scene, at daylight, sunset, night or under cloud, before you fly it. Save your own, export it as a file another pilot can import in one step, and back up your whole library to a single file.
Your weather stays yours
Clouds, wind and precipitation belong to your weather, whether that is MSFS Live Weather, a preset or StrataWx. StrataFx changes how that atmosphere looks, and nothing else. Its five optional weather controls add a cirrus layer you can switch on, raise and thicken in the simulator's preset weather, and shape how clouds move in the wind your weather already has.
Run StrataWx alongside it and StrataFx connects on its own, so adaptive themes follow the visibility StrataWx is flying. StrataWx is never required.
Press Stop, and the sky goes back
Opening StrataFx changes nothing. Your look reaches the simulator when you press Apply, and Stop, Restore original or closing the app returns every value it changed to exactly what it was.
StrataFx only applies to simulator builds it has verified. If a simulator update brings a build it does not recognize, it keeps your themes and waits for a StrataFx update rather than guessing. It runs as a normal app with no administrator prompt, installs nothing into your simulator or Community folder, and is code-signed by StrataSim Designs LLC.
What you get
StrataFx goes into your StrataSim library the moment you pay, and the library walks you through installing it and activating it on your PC. One copy is active on up to three of your PCs at once, and updates install in the background. Each license check is good for seven days, and StrataFx renews it while your PC is online.
StrataFx is in early access: twenty sky and environment controls and five weather controls are live today, and more ship as each one is verified in the simulator.
For Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on 64-bit Windows. Steam is verified. Microsoft Store, Xbox app and PC Game Pass validation is in progress. MSFS 2020 and X-Plane are not supported.
